Why I'm Writing About Writing

This blog is about my writing, my process, and my characters (which I include settings to be part of). I originally wanted to title it after a quote from Catcher in the Rye, but I realized that not everyone would understand that I was using a quote from a great book. The quote is, "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes" (Salinger Chapter 25). So I came up with something similar yet very different.

Why do I pretend to be me? Many of my stories are based on my life experience which means most of the characters are based on real people including me. I always have fun going back and seeing what I was like when I was younger and writing and wanting to use that younger me as a character (which means I have to pretend to be younger and remember how I felt and acted back then).

Why should you care? You probably pretend to be yourself, too. You put on the happy face you really did feel to hide sadness for instance. It's not that you are never happy or that being happy is not a part of you. From my experience, it is easier to make people not see the sad part of you.

Plus, maybe I have a character that is pretending to be you or one that you pretend to be. After all, "All the world's a stage/ And all it's men and women merely players" (Shakespeare, As You Like It 2.7.139-40).
